Branded wearables as a key player in RVO's event strategy
Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO) encourages entrepreneurs in sustainable, international, innovative entrepreneurship.

Topic: Corporate gifts
Think about the Netherlands. What color goes through your mind? Orange! It’s one of the reasons the RVO, part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, international presence at fairs and events does not go unnoticed.
Since ‘RVO Team Missions’ (a department within RVO) is mainly concerned with organizing startup missions for Dutch companies and the delegation abroad, they have to be present in a visible way at international conferences like Slush, Websummit, Collision, Digital Demo Day,... . Next to representing the Netherlands, they are responsible for helping these startups grow on an international level.
At Sunday we like to unlock the full potential of our customers, discover how.
A simple, yet effective gesture.
Gifts are a simple gesture but when done in the right way, it can send a very strong message. A determining factor for the effectiveness of corporate gifting, of course, is the item that’s being given. “We noticed that we really did need to come up with something more sustainable and original than giving a stylo to a potential match at events. But a gift that’s a nice lasting memory”, says Marijke Hartgers from NPoE.
Since the people of RVO knew they needed branded wearables to give the encounter with their best-fit prospects a boost, Sunday helped to empower these new relationships in a casual and positive way.
“We needed something that would make us top-of-mind with them. Typical bagger frequently end up on the ground three booths further, creating waste that doesn't make the organizations of those events happy either. That’s where Sunday created the solution.”
With branded clothing you’ll be able to say more than you would expect. So we designed branded socks as wearable gifts for RVO that leverage that effectiveness at their next fair or event.
Dutch, loyal ambassadors
The purpose of RVO’s event campaign was twofold. On the one hand going on a trade mission, you want to create a community with the whole delegation of the Netherlands, a part of the government and the startups present.
“The booth is really a place where everybody can network and where they have a spot, at such a huge event, to invite somebody or eff out. And that includes the socks, giving them away to the people part of our booth ensures a sense of unity and recognition. Creating proud Dutchies”
And on the other hand the socks are also a nice element to give along with prospects. “We don't hand them out to just anybody, we only give them after an meaningful interaction we had with people who are excited to do business with the Netherlands. That way you create visibility with the right people.”
From Lisbon to Toronto
The cooperation between our design team and the RVO went very smoothly. “Everyone was happy with the quality and design of the socks. We’ve seen them on computer screens and mockups, so to see them in real life, exactly how we envisioned them is great. And the orange color is just as visible and bright.”
This year, the socks have already been seen in Toronto, Paris, Düsseldorf, Helsinki, and Lisbon. Since they generate instant extra visibility online and offline, they are reaching a whole new target audience. Therefore, it is crucial to include them during these kinds of significant worldwide events.
“The added benefit of working with Sunday and not just with regular merchandisers is that there is a bigger story to them. Not only quality and design wise, they are producing sustainably."
“Think about recycled materials and packaging. It’s a keypoint for the government, and nowadays in high demand by event organizations. It’s a more expensive goodie than a stylo, but as we have experienced it is far more worth it.”, concludes Marijke and her team. “
