Your marketing team wants to order merch from Claude. Here are straight answers on approvals, budgets, records and accountability before you say yes.

Part of our guide to agentic commerce for branded merch.

Agentic commerce means AI agents prepare purchases on your behalf. For branded merch through Sunday MCP, an agent in Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini can suggest products, build budgets and generate quotes, but it cannot place an order. A person approves every quote through a link and confirms every shipment, so spend stays under human control.

Most writing on AI procurement is about sourcing platforms and supplier negotiations. This FAQ is narrower. It covers one category, branded merch, and one setup, Sunday MCP, and answers the questions procurement and finance teams ask first.

Can an AI agent place a merch order on its own?

No. Through Sunday MCP an agent can calculate prices and generate a quote, then show it in the chat or send it. It cannot place an order. A person approves the quote through a link. There are no automatic orders today.

The short version for finance. The agent prepares. A person approves. Quotes need a human approval, shipments need a human confirmation, and designs need a human brand sign-off.

Who approves spend when an agent prepares an order?

A person, through the link on the quote. Decide in advance who that is for each kind of spend, the same way you assign purchase approvals today. A team lead for small reorders, someone in finance above a threshold you set internally.

The agent can prepare as many quotes as people ask for. None of them becomes an order until someone approves it. If quotes pile up unapproved, that is a process issue to fix internally.

What is the audit trail?

Every order starts as a quote, and every quote is approved by a person. That gives you the same record whether a colleague or an agent did the preparation.

StepWho actsWhat exists afterwards
Suggestion or budgetAgentA proposal in the chat, or a shared wish list
QuoteAgent generates itA priced quote, shown or sent
ApprovalA person, through a linkThe approved quote
OrderSundayThe order in your Sunday account
ShipmentAgent plans, a person confirmsA confirmed shipment

The quote is the document to file. It shows what was proposed and what was approved.

Who is accountable if the agent suggests the wrong thing?

The person who approves the quote owns the purchase decision, as with any purchase order. The agent is a tool that prepares proposals, closer to a very fast colleague than to a buyer. Sunday produces and delivers what the approved quote describes.

The same goes for brand. If a design does not match your guidelines, the human sign-off step is where it gets caught. That step does not go away.

How do budgets work with an AI agent?

Niels Vandecasteele at Sunday calls assembling budgets the most boring task in merch, and it is the one finance teams will see first. You give the agent a budget and an audience. It searches the catalog, uses what is popular and performs well, and returns a split.

Illustrative example · You, in Claude: We have €20,000 for merch this half-year across onboarding, two events and client gifts. Suggest a split and show unit prices and estimated shipping.
Sunday MCP: Here is a proposed split across the three uses, with products from the Sunday catalog, unit prices and estimated shipping per destination. I can save it as a wish list for review or prepare quotes for the parts you approve.

The agent has no spending authority of its own. Some gifting MCPs, such as Goody's, launched in June 2026 with daily budget limits. In Sunday MCP the control point is the approval of each quote by a person.

What data can the agent access?

The connection uses OAuth with your own Sunday login. The agent works with your company's Sunday data: catalog and prices, quotes, stock, shipments and reporting. Whatever the agent reads also passes through the AI assistant you use, whether that is Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini. Review that assistant's data policy with IT, as you would for any connector.

The wider security picture is in spend controls for AI agents, and connector data questions in the Sunday MCP FAQ.

What does Sunday MCP cost?

Sunday MCP is included on every Sunday plan. You pay for the merch you approve, as quoted. The usual Sunday terms apply, including the 10-piece minimum order. Access is granted on request. No Sunday account yet? Create one here, or see the Sunday platform first.

Frequently asked questions

Can an AI agent place a merch order on its own?
No. Through Sunday MCP an agent can calculate prices and generate a quote, then show or send it. It cannot place an order. A person approves the quote through a link, and there are no automatic orders today.
Who approves spend when an agent prepares a merch order?
A person, through the link on the quote. Decide in advance who that is for each type of spend, the same way you assign purchase approvals today. The agent can prepare as many quotes as you like, but none of them becomes an order until someone approves it.
What is the audit trail for agent-prepared merch orders?
Every order starts as a quote, and every quote is approved by a person through a link. Shipments are confirmed by a person too. So for each order there is a quote, an approval and the resulting order in your Sunday account, whether the quote was prepared by a colleague or by an agent.
Who is accountable if the agent suggests the wrong thing?
The person who approves the quote owns the purchase decision, as with any purchase order. The agent prepares proposals, the approver decides, and Sunday produces and delivers what the approved quote describes. Brand sign-off on designs also stays with a person.
How do budgets work with an AI agent?
You give the agent a budget and an audience. It searches the catalog, uses what is popular and performs well, and returns a budget split or a shareable wish list. It has no spending authority of its own. The budget is enforced at the moment a person approves the quote.
What data can the agent access through Sunday MCP?
The connection uses OAuth with your own Sunday login, so the agent works with your company's Sunday data: catalog and prices, quotes, stock, shipments and reporting. Whatever the agent reads also passes through the AI assistant you use, so review that assistant's data policy as you would for any connector.
What does Sunday MCP cost?
Sunday MCP is included on every Sunday plan. You pay for the merch you approve, as quoted. Access is granted on request through the Sunday MCP page.
Does Sunday MCP replace our procurement process?
No. It moves the preparation work into an AI assistant. Your approval step stays where it is, as a person approving a quote. Many teams will find the agent makes procurement easier, because requests arrive as priced quotes instead of loose messages.
Can shipments go out without human confirmation?
No. The agent can plan shipments and send-outs, including gifts, but a person confirms each shipment before it leaves.
Which AI assistants does Sunday MCP work with?
Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini, plus any other AI assistant or platform that supports the Model Context Protocol. Your team adds Sunday as a custom connector and signs in with a Sunday account.
How do we get access to Sunday MCP?
Request access through the form on the Sunday MCP page, and Sunday grants it. Rollout is currently focused on partners and agencies that handle merch for clients, and on companies with large merch programs.
How is Sunday MCP different from a gifting MCP like Goody or Sendoso?
Goody and Sendoso launched gifting MCPs in June 2026. Goody sends curated third-party gifts, and Sendoso sends gifts and direct mail. Sunday MCP covers the whole management of your own branded merch: suggestions, budgets, quotes, designs, stock, reorders, shipments and reporting. Gifting is one part of it.
How much merch will AI agents order in future?
Niels Vandecasteele at Sunday expects around 20% of merch, maybe more, to be ordered by agents within about three years, mostly reorders. New collections stay a creative project led by people.
What is B2B agentic commerce?
B2B agentic commerce is when AI agents do the research, comparison, pricing and preparation of business purchases. In branded merch it is most useful for repeat purchases and budget planning, with human approval on every order.
Where should finance start with Sunday MCP?
With reporting questions. Ask how many items shipped in a period, what is in stock and which countries order the most. These are read-only, nothing gets ordered, and they show how the agent reads your data.
